... and I'm having problems with my Shimano XT M785 brakes. I think I will give it one more good bleed and see how it goes then consider a new brake…I had this with my rear SLX brake but found I’d not tightened the hose into the lever enough after cutting it. Hope will be finding their way onto my bike.If it’s the lever, you can get a whole new lever for a little over £20.
I tightened it up and it’s not leaked since.anyone had the same?
Not trying to be obnoxious but pointing out it shouldn’t be happening and hopefully doesn’t too often.
They can get both torn and clamped out of position, and that would be consistent with having just been opened up for bleeding. A less common mounting system is the post mount. !Bicycles Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who build and repair bicycles, people who train cycling, or commute on bicycles. May result in failure. Make sure the reservoir is turned horizontal when open so fluid can't spill out. Everything was fine until i noticed that the right lever (back brake) was leaking.I tried un-tightening the top cap, which really helped a lot but im not sure about the origin of the problem.I should note that when i took it to the LBS for bleeding, the pads were 80% worn. This achieves 2 things; To subscribe to this RSS feed, copy and paste this URL into your RSS reader. If it's leaking anywhere else, there's not much that can be done other than replace the lever. Thanks for contributing an answer to Bicycles Stack Exchange! You need cheking where is leaking oil. The mounting bolts of the post mount are parallel with the rotor faceand the mo… I have a set of shimano SLX lever zee caliper brakes and for some reason the back level leaks. If the brake feels "tight" and there's fluid leaking from the fluid reservoir cover, I'd say the reservoir has been overfilled.
We have put together a manual using a Shimano brake to show you how to bleed your brakes correctly and how to get that piston unstuck. Trying to show where my SLX is leaking from.
I think that it is also leaking at the caliper at one of the (4) pistons as it may be cracked.. ðI recently swapped HOPE Tech X2 for XT and am in love with the brakes.I’ve noticed it on occasion in use, but it’s probably for the same reason and perhaps due to the oil expanding.I’ve had leaks at the lever (XT’s) when I’ve slightly overfilled the brakes. It seems to be that the liquid is coming out at the point but when I take it apart it all looks totally fine, no wear, no breakages, all seated nicely yet it still leaks.I have a set of shimano SLX lever zee caliper brakes and for some reason the back level leaks. Very accuratelu clean in gasoline and assembke. Wondered why it was never right after any bleed since new. I don’t like the feel of Shimano brakes either, skinny levers. There is supposedly some kind of pressure relief system where you’ve described. If the system is overfilled with brake fluid it will seep out until the pressure has normalised again. There was a definite mist around the levers dust was sticking to them but the brakes worked OK. After tying them to the bars with elastic bands overnight the levers were still firm.I bought them second hand so unfortunately warranty isn’t an option ðYou can buy the master cylinder and lever from CRC, just over 20 quid.It seems to be coming from under the big cap (the one that usually says slx/xt/zee or whatever) so you have this plastic cap, then the metal plate, then the sort of plastic/rubber insert before you actually get to the reservoir and fluid. Don’t need to replace entire system. Some people don’t need any help to ride into trees! My Deores weeped for several rides from new after shortening the hoses and bleeding the brakes.
Remind me again where to look on my Shimano brakes for the leaks...? You should always try to keep a small bubble of air at the top of the reservoir sightglass. Disc brake calipers mount to fittings on the compatible bicycle frame and fork. The front caliper is covered in oil, and my brake pads are saturated and not providing any bite.
Time to take them back?Maybe it was the pressure relief system mentioned aboveThe topic ‘Has anyone had their SLX (or any other new shimano) brake leak at the lever?’ is closed to new replies.Mine leaked at both ends, swapped for Elixir 3’s and no problems with those since.
